GENEROSITY
First Time Giver
A first time giver is any person young or old who decides to give/donate in any of our gatherings on Sunday, through our online Donate tab, or even use our giving envelope to send their donation in the mail. Every time we receive a first time gift, no matter how big or small, we celebrate the gift as a church. This does not mean that we tell everybody what you have done. It simply means that we have a heart of gratitude for every financial gift the church receives. We encourage people who have never given to become a first time giver.
(2 Corinthians 9:7 NLT) You must each decide in your heart how much to give. Don’t give reluctantly, or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”
Regular Giver
A regular giver is a person who decides to place something in the giving bucket as often as they have an opportunity, or as they think about it on Sunday mornings, or during the week through online giving. They don't give a set amount, but they do enjoy supporting the church in this manor. Our hope is to see people in our church move from a first time gift to becoming a regular giver.
(2 Corinthians 8:11-12 NLT) Now you should finish what you started. Let the eagerness you showed in the beginning be matched now by your giving. Give in proportion to what you have. Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have.
First Time Tithing
Tithe is an interesting word. It simply means “a ten percent gift” or another way to think about tithe is to call it proportional giving. At some point in the spiritual journey we encourage each person in our church to set aside ten percent of his or her income and place it in the giving bucket on Sunday, or online at some point in the week.
One of the reasons we encourage people to do this is to experience a level of personal risk in trusting God with your personal finances. Additionally, we want people to think about how this gift makes them part of something greater than they can do on their own, by partnering with all the other people in the church who are doing the same thing. Most people feel energized after giving this gift for the first time and many realize that they could live on less then they had thought before.
(1 Corinthians 16:2 NLT) On the first day of each week, you should each put aside a portion of the money you have earned. Don’t wait until I get there and then try to collect it all at once.
Regular Tithing
A regular tithe is when a person or family who has made the commitment gives a ten percent gift in connection with every pay period they experience during the year. Our encouragement for every first time tithe is to become regular in tithing. This type of proportional giving allows people from all types of income brackets to make the same financial commitment to the church. Additionally this type of giving opens the door for a spiritual blessing for all who give.
(Malachi 3:10 NLT) Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!
Extravagant Giver
An extravagant giver is a person who gives above and beyond the ten percent of the tithe. These people live with generous hearts towards the mission of Jesus Christ. Sometimes people who have never given regularly to the church think that they will become extravagant givers when they win the lottery, strike it rich, get a big bonus, or receive a long overdue raise at work. Unfortunately, this is often not the case, because people who do not establish a pattern of giving and generosity in times of little struggle tend to not be truly generous in times of plenty. Our prayer is that God would bless your finances and you would be faithful and even extravagant in your giving to the mission of the church.
(2 Corinthians 8:1-5 NLT) Now I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, what God in his kindness has done through the churches in Macedonia. They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity. For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of their own free will. They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem. They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.
